BIOGRAPHY

 

Kyla is an award winning writer and director based in London. Her short film MERCURY (selected by NISI MASA European Short Pitch for development, as well as winning the ShortsTV Pitch at Cannes 2017) is currently touring festivals world wide; winning Best Short Film & Best Actress awards at Nice Film Festival 2018, Best Short Film at London Film Week 2018, Best Short Film at  Exeter 2 Short Nights 2018, as well as receiving many more nominations. She has a background in video art and has directed promos and documentaries for clients including The National Wildlife Trust, Armani, DKNY and Atlantic Records.

 

Kyla graduated with an MA with Distinction from The London Film School in 2013, with her film THE INTERPRETER, which was long-listed for the BAFTA Short Film Award 2015, awarded Best Student Short & received a Special Mention for Best  Woman Director at the London Short Film Festival 2015 & won The Audience Choice Award at NAFAN 2015.

 

Her Documentary SILVER RAILS (following her father, the late Jack Bruce and collaborators recording his final album in Abbey Road Studios) has been licensed by the BBC and her feature length international collaboration UNDOCUMENT (a series of character driven dramas exploring the complex theme of illegal immigration; set in Iran, Greece and England) won Best Feature, Best Screen Play and Best Director at The Bucharest Film Awards 2017, Best Humanitarian Film at London TMC 2016 and was long-listed for two BIFAs, for Best Debut Director and Most Promising Newcomer, 2016. 

 

Kyla is currently developing her feature THE COCKATOO INN, (a comedy road movie based on MERCURY exploring the themes of female friendship and trauma) selected for the Zagreb film festival script workshop. She is also in pre-production for her next short in association with the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
